The days of being derilict and overcrowded with immigrants are now long gone, Notting Hill is now proudly one of the capital's most desirable areas. The North Kensington end of Notting Hill has many large Victorian style houses with leafy, peaceful private gardens and squares. Many of the grand properties here were spared from being converted into flats. Notting Hill's eastern border with runs into Bayswater which offers much more modest properties, but is undergoing a dramatic change as trendy stores, bars and restaurants force out the more traditional shops as rents are pushed up.
