Notting Hill Carnival

 • Don’t carry too much cash or credit cards around with you. Though the cashpoints are emptied fast, so ensure you have enough!

• Ensure arrangements for your return journey before leaving for the Carnival.

• Go with the flow of the crowd – walking against it is not recommended, especially with children.

• We don’t recommend you bring valuables or wear expensive jewellery and keep you belongings with you at all times.

• The weather could be good so do not forget your sunglasses and suncream, part of the essential kit for the Carnival.

• If you see an unattended bag or package anywhere please report it to the nearest Police Officer or member of LNHC’s (who organise the Notting Hill Carnival) Public Safety team immediately.

To help ensure you enjoy the Notting Hill Carnival we have put together the following tips. Use them as a guide and adhere to the carnival code - "Enjoy, stay safe and respect others" and you will have a great time.

• Arrange to meet friends and family before entering the Carnival itself as the crowds grow fast.

• Set up a meeting place in case you loose your family or friends.

• To avoid congestion, arrive and leave early.

• Be aware of pick pockets who will be attracted to the large crowds

• If you decide to move around the Carnival area you may find your return journey easier from another station or bus stop.

What do you like at the Carnival?

  1. Just found out Major Lazer is playing at the carnival this year, it's gonna to go off! Sound system is on the junction of Portobello Road / Acklam Road.... can't wait ...

  2. The Notting Hill Canrival is just the best day out you can have London, even better than NYE. It consistently captures the essence of what London is about year after year. I first went to Carnival nearly 6 years ago and was blown away by the amazing atmosphere. Canrival people going crazy and partying in the streets everywhere, incredible sight.

I think the better day is the Sunday, not the Monday as everyone goes on Mon because they think Sun is for the kids, as it’s called “Children’s Day”. Carnival Monday can be more crowded because of this. On Sun, the carnival sounds systems, like Sancho Panza play classic old school house attracting a more mature crowd. Any which way the Notting Hill Carnival Rocks!

  3. The Trojans @ Notting Hill Carnival

Notting Hill Carnival means, among other things, Gaz Mayall's Trojans - always worth catching on stage at the Gaz's Rockin' Blues soundsystem in Talbot Road.

  4. Good Times is the only place to be at Carnival, loving the sweet sweet sounds of Norman Jay x

The Notting Hill Carnival starts in

The London Notting Hill Carnival is an annual event which takes place during the bank holiday at the end of August (actual dates are on our calender page), starting on Sunday and finishing on Monday evening, from 9am until 7pm each day.

The Carnival has been held on the streets of Notting Hill since it's orgins in 1965. The Caribbean community lead the event, many of whom have lived in the area themselves since the 1950s.
