No More Developments On Portobello Road For Twenty Years

The Council, under pressure, from many local campaigners have agreed that there will be no further development on the world famous Portobello Road for at least 20 years.

Liberal Democrat Councillor, Carol Caruana was quoted as saying "I am delighted that the pressure local people brought to bear over these past two years has led to the Conservative Council changing it's mind and agreeing with us that Portobello Road is no place for luxury developments. It's the market and local shops we should be protecting"

Following the announcement a new policy also appeared to drop any mention of a development that included turning Portobello Court into a supermarket with many new flats proposed to be built as part of the grand scheme.

Carol continued "Now we must make sure this is not just a piece of paper but a real plan for the future. Residents can be sure I will hold the Council to account over this and demand they work with stall holders and residents to safeguard our unique area"
