Leighton House Museum undergoes refurbishment

A £1.6m restoration of a London painters hame, namely Lord Frederic Leighton is set to show many new features fo be seen by the public for the first time.

Leighton House, located in Holland Park Road, was the home of Frederic, Lord Leighton (1830 - 1896) and is one of the most extraodinary buildings to be built during 19th century. The house was constructed to drawings by George Aitchison, and was extended and dramatically embellished over the next 30 years to create a wonderful private palace of art. Inside the building can be found the Arab Hall which houses Leighton’s priceless collection of over 1,000 Syrian tiles and many other important works by Leighton himself and his contemporaries of the time.

The house is expected to open for the first viewings on April 4 ,2009.
