Stella McCartney (born September 13th, 1971) is an English fashion designer. She is the daughter of former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney and his first wife, rock photographer and animal rights activist Linda McCartney.
Stella McCartney is well known and respected as an international designer. She became interested designing clothes at age 12, when she made her first jacket. A few years later she interned for Christian Lacroix and worked on his first fashion design collection, honing her tailoring skills for a few years on the world renown Savile Row.
Studiying at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in the early 1990s her graduation collection was completed in 1995 and was modelled by friends and supermodels Yasmin Le Bon, Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss at the graduation runway show. The collection was launched to a song by Paul McCartney called "Stella May Day" The show of course hit the headlines and as a result the complete collection was sold to a London fashion outlet called Tokio.
As a dedicated vegetarian, McCartney does not use fur or leather in her designs and she supports PETA. Some of McCartney's designs have text that elaborates on her "no animal" policy. The most famous example of this perhaps being with an Adidas clothing item which was adorned with "suitable for sporty vegetarians" on the sleeve. However, Stella will use materials such as wool, silk, and other animal-derived fabrics in her designs.
Today with her headquarters based on Golborne Road, Notting Hill the success story very much continues with new collections, lingerie, beauty products, shoes, accesories, bags and her Adidas Collection.
